The Pôles
Laval was one of the first cities in Quebec to actively pursue technopolitan growth through the development of a high-technology knowledge economy. To this end, it has structured its economical development around five technopolitan sectors of excellence – the BIOPOLE, the INDUSTRIAL POLE, the AGROPOLE , the e-POLE and the LEISURE AND TOURISM POLE.

The objectives are as follows:
  • Create close ties between academic research and business
  • Help commercialize research
  • Stimulate the technology component of manufacturing.
 

The Poles

AGROPOLE

Comprises farm production, agri-food (processing and distribution), technological innovation and scientific research.
BIOPOLE

The BIOPOLE is part of a vast international life sciences network. It is also an important player in the scientific community of Greater Montreal and contributes to the region’s leadership in the field of life sciences.
e-POLE

The e-POLE’s main areas of expertise are manufacturing, software development, consulting services, installation and repair, training and telemarketing, infrastructures and business process mapping, and IT applications for the health field.
INDUSTRIAL POLE

Comprises order givers, subcontractors, designers and manufacturers in almost every sphere of activity.
LEISURE AND TOURISM POLE

Laval has tremendous growth potential in tourism. Besides day trippers and tourists who stay in Laval, this industry also includes the recreational activities of Laval residents.
